Heart Failure Causes Death of Well Known Local Lady—No Previous Illness.

Eagle Grove is mourning the loss of Mrs. J. R. McCurry. She died suddenly and without warning at her home here about 10:30 Wednesday morning. She was sitting in the hammock doing sewing. Her daughter, Alice, was at the Guy McCurry home. She was first discovered by her neighbor, Mrs. Wright, who called her daughter and the doctor was summoned at once but she died before he reached her. Mr. McCurry was out on his route delivering the mail. One of her daughters, who had been visiting here, started home Wednesday morning but was reached at Missouri Valley and she returned at once.

As we go to press no arrangements have been made for the funeral.

Mrs. McCurry was universally well known and respected. She was one exceptionally kind and obliging neighbor, loyal member of the M. E. church and a kind devoted mother. The sincere sympathy of everyone is extended the grief-stricken husband and children.

We briefly mentioned the death of Mrs. J. R. McCurry in our last issue. She passed away suddenly Wednesday Sept. 1, 1920 at 10:30 a. m. She arose and performed her usual household duties, as usual, that morning, and was in her usual health. Their daughter Blanche Gunderson had taken the train only that morning for home and Mr. McCurry had left on his mail route. A message overtook Mrs. Gunderson at Carroll, and Mr. McCurry was reached by telephone and came home as soon as possible, but she had passed away before they arrived.

Mrs. McCurry was a woman of strong Christian character and had a wide circle of friends. In addition to the children, at the funeral, Mr. Gunderson came from Norfolk, Neb., and Charles Nelson came from Bisbee, N. Dak.

Jennie Lattie Clough was born near Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa, Jan. 22, 1863. She was united in marriage with James R. McCurry Aug. 18, 1878, at Cresco, Iowa.

About a year after marriage Mrs. McCurry went to housekeeping with her husband near Renwick, Iowa. Here they continued to reside until 1882 when they moved to So. Dakota, making their home near Revillo. In 1892 the family returned Iowa, taking up their residence again near Renwick. After living there about four years the family moved to Eagle Grove where the McCurry home has been ever since.

Six children were born to Mrs. McCurry and her husband all of whom are living and were present at the funeral.

Mrs. McCurry and other members of her family were converted in a school house near Renwick about the year 1894. She united with the Methodist Episcopal church of which she was a faithful and useful member till the hour of her death.

When she passed away last Wednesday, Sept. 1,1920, she had reached the age of 57 years, 7 months, and 9 days.

Mrs. McCurry out lived her parents and all her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, J. R. McCurry, and her six children: Guy and Alice of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Mrs. Nellie Jones of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. Hattie Nelson of Bisbee, N. D.; Mrs. Blanche Gunderson of Norfolk, Neb.; and Ray of Chicago, Ill. Nine grandchildren also mourn the loss of their grandmother.

Mrs. McCurry's departure was swift and unexpected. Her place in the home can never be filled. She will be greatly missed by her friends and neighbors. The church will mourn its loss through her translation to the better world, but will rejoice in her coronation in the presence of her Savior and Lord.

“Jesus, thou Prince of life,
Thy chosen cannot die!
Like thee, they conquer in the strife
To reign with Thee on High."
