March 22, 1832 --- September 18, 1915

William McComb [McCombs] was born in Ireland, March 22, 1832, and died in Troy Township, Wright County Iowa, September 18, 1915, being 87 years; 6 months 26 days of age.

In 1858 Mr. McComb came to America in company with his brother Samuel, who by a singular coincident was laid away eighteen years ago today, on Sunday. Mr. McComb lived the first years of his life in America in the province of Quebec, Canada, and from there he came to Iowa City, Iowa, where he lived for a number of years. Here he was married to Miss Hannah McKeever, who preceeded him in death by four years, having died July 2, 1911. To this union was born five children, all of them surviving their father, but one who died in infancy. Those who survive are John McComb, who makes his home with his sister, Mrs. Mamie Hunt, of Eagle Grove; Samuel McComb of Goldfield, and Mrs. Hattie Thorp [Thorpe] of Clear Lake, Minn., all of whom were present at the funeral.

About thirty-five years ago Mr. McComb moved with his family to Kamrar, Hamilton county, where he lived for several years, moving from there to Humboldt, where he remained for a short time, then taking up his residence on the farm in Troy township, seventeen years ago. Here he lived until the time of his death.

In early life Mr. McComb gave his heart to God and lived a faithful Christian all his life. He was for many years a member of the Presbyterian church but of late years was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. At the time of his death he belonged to the Methodist church at Troy Center.

Mr. McComb was a good Christian gentleman and loved and respected by all who knew him and leaves a host of friends to mourn his departure.

To the bereaved family and relatives we extend our heartfelt sympathy and commend them to his Lord and Saviour who can comfort and help.

The funeral services were held at his home in Troy township, Sunday afternoon, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. M. McCabe of Vincent. A quartette from Eagle Grove sang some appropriate hymns. Many floral offerings adorned the casket, mute tokens of love and esteem.

He was laid to rest in beautiful Rose Hill cemetery at Eagle Grove, beside his loved companion there to await the glad resurrection morn.

Those present at the funeral from a distance were, W. T. McCombs and wife of Waterloo, Mrs. Samuel McComb, Mr. and Mrs. McCollough, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kennedy of Webster City, Mr. Frank McComb and family of Blairsburg, Mr. Ernest Busing and family, Herman Busing and family, Mrs. Chas. Bowers and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gerber, all of Webster City.

"Weep not that his toils are over; weep not that his race is run.
God grant we may rest as, calmly when our work, like his is done!
Till then we would yield with gladness our treasure to him to keep,
And rejoice in the sweet assurance He giveth His loved ones sleep."
