Anna J. Westcott, the daughter of Jake and Alma (Rice) Westcott, was born on March 28, 1931, in Black Hawk County, Iowa. She graduated from Union High School in 1948.
On January 16, 1949, Anna was united in marriage to Floyd Maas at her parent’s home in Union. The couple made their home and farmed in the New Providence and Union area. In 1982, they moved to Goldfield. Anna was well known for baking and decorating cakes and cookies. She worked at Dodger Manufacturing until its closing, and later at Elderbridge Congregate Meals in Eagle Grove until retiring in January of 2010.
Anna and Floyd also raised Registered Welch Ponies and with the “6 Hitch” they would enter many parades around the area. They were members of the Wright County Hitch and Drive Club. Anna belonged to the Goldfield area Red Hatters Club and was a member of the Goldfield United Methodist Church.
Anna June passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at Fort Dodge Villa Care Center, under the care of Unity Point Hospice, at the age of 88 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd, parents, son, Dennis Maas, brothers, Ross, Elmer, Paul, Allison, Mark, and Frank Westcott, sisters, Betty Holman, Alice Grimstead, as well as two sisters in infancy, and her son-in-law, Larry Larson.
Survivors include her daughter, Debra Larson of Lehigh; son, Dale Maas and wife Valerie of Popejoy; son, David Maas and wife Gina of Eldora; and daughter, Diane George and husband Terry of Hardy; 14 grandchildren: Matthew Maas, Daniel Maas, Jeremy Maas, Zach Maas, Tyler Bendlage, Thomas George, Samuel George, Amanda Wallace, Ann Moenck, Claudia Kersting, Lisa Maas, Courtney Hurt, Katherine O’Brien and Amber McStockard; 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Westcott of Lowann, TX., Roland Westcott of Green Mountain, IA; and sisters, Pearl Greif of Altoona, and Merna Walker of Renton, WA.
Memorial services at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield with Pastor Lynn Gardner, officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Foust Funeral Homes, Eagle Grove and Goldfield in charge of arrangements.
