Vera Louise McCormick, the daughter of Alfred and Minnie Pratt McCormick, was born on Nov. 12, 1910 on a farm near Eagle Grove, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and received her education in the rural schools. As a young lady, she worked in various area homes and helped with the housework and the children. Later, she moved to the Belmond area, where she lived and worked. About 25 years ago, she moved to San Rafael, Calif., where she worked and helped care for the children in the homes of the area. Ten years ago, she semi-retired and continued to help her friends, when the need arose. During her life, she was a very hard worker and loved to help others, especially children. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in San Rafael and while living in Belmond helped by contributing to the building fund when a new church building was built. Also she helped with the new church building in California.

She died in her sleep early Monday morning, Jan. 6, 1986, at the home of a friend in San Rafael, where she had been staying for a short time. She attained the age of 75 years, one month and 24 days.

She is survived by her brother, Walter and his wife, Olga McCormick, of rural Eagle Grove, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services for Vera L. McCormick, 75, of San Rafael, Calif., and formerly of Eagle Grove, were held on Friday, Jan. 10, 1986 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Scott C. Hall, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Thursday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held in California at a later date.
