August 30, 1882 --- January 13, 1934

John L. McCormick, 51, died Saturday morning in a Kansas City, Mo., hospital where he had spent the last eight months receiving treatment. Mr. McCormick has been in falling health for two years. He spent some time here last winter with his mother, Mrs. J. Y. McCormick, and later entered a hospital in Kansas City. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the Kubltschek & Kastler funeral home and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.

Those from a distance who were here to attend the funeral were: Alfred McCormick of Evanston, Ill., Elmer McCormick and family of Geneva, Ill., Mrs. Grace Watkins and sons of Burt, Fred McCormick and family of Elmore, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Koestler of Armstrong.

The services were in charge of Rev. W. L. Breaw, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.

John L. McCormick, son of John Y. and Laura B. McCormick, was born at Mt. Auburn, Christian county, Ill., August 30, 1882, and died in Kansas City, Mo., Jan. 13, 1934, at the age of 51 years, 4 months and 13 days.

He came to Eagle Grove with his parents when only a small boy 12 years of age, where he received his education and grew to manhood. When about 21 years of age he entered the services of the Chicago Northwestern railroad company and began his work in Chicago. About 20 years ago it became necessary to give up his railroad work because of defective hearing. Since that time he has lived in Kansas City, Mo., until two years ago when because of failing health, he came to Eagle Grove where he was tenderly cared for by his mother. About eight months ago he returned to Kansas City and entered a hospital for treatment, where he died on Saturday morning, Jan. 13, 1934. The end came quite suddenly.

Wherever he had lived he had gained the admiration and respect of a large circle of friends.

He leaves to mourn his going, his aged mother, Mrs. Laura B. McCormick of Eagle Grove, and five brothers and sisters: A. H. McCormick of Evanston, Ill., Mrs. Grace Watkins of Burt, Iowa; Elmer McCormick of Geneva, Iowa, Fred McCormick of Elmore, Minn., Eugene McCormick of Eagle Grove. One brother and one sister died in infancy and his father preceded him in death five years ago this month. There are also five nieces and five nephews and a host of friends who mourn his going.
