December 30, 1868 --- January 24, 1952

Mrs. J. D. McComber, 83, died Thursday night following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Methodist church, in charge of Rev. Harrison G. Dawes. Interment was on the family lot in Rose. Hill cemetery.

Mrs. McComber is survived by her husband, three children, Mrs. Alfred Hanson of Goldfield, William McComber of Minneapolis, Minn. and Mrs. Duane Trausch of Eagle Grove.

Mr. and Mrs. McComber and family resided for many years on their farm north of Eagle Grove, and in 1940 retired from the farm and moved to Eagle Grove. Since that time they have resided at 203 So. Hewitt Ave.

Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. W. L. McComber, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Robinson, Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Moeller, Somers; Mr. and Mrs. D. F. Henderson, Mrs. W. D. Nettleton, Sioux City; Mrs. Prudence Cookinham, Gurnee, Ill.; Mrs. Merle Campbell, Oconomowoc, Wis.; D. L. Wickens, Vienna, Va.; Mrs. G. E. Wickens and daughter Susan, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Henderson, Plover, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wiese, Arnolds Park.

Obituary

Lena L., daughter of David W. and Elizabeth M. Summerville was born in Monticello, Iowa on Dec. 30, 1868, and passed away at her home after a brief illness on Jan. 24, 1952; having reached the age of 83 years and 24 days.

She was baptized and united with the Methodist church as a youth. She attended the Jones county schools near Monticello, Iowa. After a period of time with her family she moved to Ayrshire, Palo Alto County, Iowa making this her home until 1888.

On May 18, 1888 at Emmetsburg, Iowa she was united in marriage to Joseph D. McComber of Winslow, Illinois and to this union three children were born They made their home for periods of time on the farm, in Palo Alto county, then moving to farms in North Dakota, Snohomish, Wash., to finally settle on their farm north of Eagle Grove, Iowa where they resided until 1940 at which time they retired and moved to their present home in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband J. D. McComber, three children Mabel, Mrs. Alfred Hansen of Goldfield; William L. McComber of Minneapolis, Minn. and Betty, Mrs. Duane Trausch of Eagle Grove, Iowa. One daughter-in-law, Mrs. A. W. Moeller. Five grandchildren and one great grandson also survive. Many other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. McComber was instrumental among others in forming the Evergreen Daughters of Ceres, which is still in activity today. She was also the first chairman of the Farm Bureau Homemakers group in Eagle Grove township. She was very interested in community and world affairs.

She was a faithful, loving wife and mother, with a willing smile for everyone. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 26, 1952 at the Methodist church, Eagle Grove, Iowa. Rev. Harrison G. Dawes officiated. Interment was held on the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
