James Edward McCausland (1870-1945)

September 26, 1870 --- August 24, 1945

James E. McCausland, 74, passed away at his home early Friday morning, August 24. He had been in poor health for the past 5 years.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Congregational church with the Rev. L. M. Wilkinson in charge. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mr. McCausland was born in Lena, Ill., Sept. 26, 1870 where he resided until he was 6 years of age, coming with his parents to Webster City, and later to Eagle Grove where he has since made his home.

His parents were Andrew L. and Elizabeth McCausland. He was united in marriage to Margaret Derscheid in the year 1891. To this union two children were born, Ila Leone, and Earl James. Mrs. McCausland passed away August 7, 1908. In the spring of 1911 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Humphrey, who passed away March 9, 1917. On June 22, 1919, he was united in marriage to Lillian O. Warren. To this union one son, Donald Edward was born.

Five years ago he was stricken with a severe heart attack from which he never fully recovered. He spent the greater part of his life in this community where he was engaged in farming and the buying of livestock.

For the past 11 years he has been operating a grocery store. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 68 for many years.

Surviving are his wife, Lillian, one daughter, Mrs. Ralph Humphreys of Hampton, two sons, Dr. E. J. McCausland of Brewster, Minn, and Plat. Sgt. Donald E. McCausland now overseas; one sister Margaret E. Cooke of this city and one brother, John L. McCausland of Sonora, Calif., and seven grandchildren.

Mr. McCausland was of a kind and generous nature, an upright and friendly man who found particular delight in his home surrounded by members of his family.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral of J. E. McCausland Monday were Dr. and Mrs. Earl McCausland and family or Brewster, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Humphreys and family of Hampton, James Humphrey of Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Mr. and Mrs. Beech Rohrer, Fort Dodge, Mrs. Arthur Steeples, Fort Madison, Mrs. Al Peterson, Mason City, Mrs. Hubie Gottfried, Hampton, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Kuland, Minn.
