March 15, 1917MRS. J. E. MCCAUSLAND IN MEMORIUM
October 25th, 1877 to March 9th, 1917, was Times span of a noble life. Not great in years, but great in soul, great in all that constitutes real greatness, character and heart. Her universe centered in her home, and it was there she developed and lived her ideals. It was in the home she exemplified that largeness of heart and kindness of temper, that brought heaven to earth, and radiated a light of love that warmed and mellowed all within the circle of her unconscious, unselfish, and hallowed influence. So modest, unassuming and self-effacing was she that few realized her inestimable worth until an inscrutable Providence let fall the impenetrable curtain of shadow and separation.
With her nuptial vows she took motherless children to a mother heart in such a measure of care and love that the greatest loss that can come to the life of a child in this world was never realized in this motherless home she entered. The husband soon realized the heavenly Father had in wondrous measure restored to his bereaved heart, children and home the spirit of an ideal mother. She was happy in this relation of service, perfectly happy, and often remarked to her nearest friends that she had never before known what real happiness was. Whatever of care, vexation or disappointments came to her, as they do to all in this life, they never touched her sweet spirit, ruffled her even temper, or caused a complaint. The husband was always met with a smile of perfect patience and love, and the children held to a mother heart of limitless affection.
On Friday evening, March 9th Mrs. McCausland went quietly and without a pain, or struggle, from her heaven home on earth to her heaven home above, with her husband kneeling at her bedside little realizing life’s great drama had reached it final climax of tragedy. The end came on the third day after an operation at the hospital. A few hours before she remarked to her husband that she was feeling easy and very much better, and urged him to relax from his ceaseless vigils and take a much needed rest. While across the street from the hospital to inform Mrs. Humphreys of Mrs. McCausland’s condition he was called back to the hospital and when reaching her couch she threw her arm around his neck, and her spirit took it eternal flight.
Little marvel this husband, and these children feel the hand of Providence heavy upon them and that they are called to an irremediable loss. But they have a memory purifying and sustaining that will last throughout all time and eternity.
