4 March 1883 ---- 19 July 1958

Rasmus Watne, retired shoe maker of Eagle Grove, died Saturday July 19 following a stroke on July 15, at the age of 75. He was born March 4, 1883 near Stavanger, Norway to Thor and Kirsten Watne. At the age of 10 he moved with his parents to Carthage, S.D. and a year later to Eagle Grove. Having lost his hearing at the age of two, he attended the State School at Council Bluffs where he learned the cobbler's trade. He had his own shoe shop in Eagle Grove until he retired in 1950.

He married Grace Stokes of Traer, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, Grace, by three sisters, Amelia Watne of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Anna Erickson of Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Leon Fischer of Webster City, and by two brothers, Hans of Eagle Grove, and Carl of Vallejo, Calif.

Funeral services were held at Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church, Kenneth R. Torvik, pastor, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Pastor Laurence Stacey of Des Moines, pastor to the deaf and dumb also spoke. Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery.
