F. FREERKSEN DIES IN IOWA CITY HOSPITAL

Engine Trouble Forced Him to Leave His Car at Toledo, Continuing to Iowa City on a Bus.

Fred Freerksen, 61, died in the University Hospital at Iowa City, Friday, Dec. 5th. He had been told recently by his doctor that he had but a short time to live. Last Thursday, he got in his car and started for Iowa City, alone, without telling anyone where he was going. He had car trouble enroute, the oiling apparatus failing to function, so he left his car at Toledo and went on to Iowa City in a bus.

He was admitted to the University hospital even though he had no credentials, and passed away Friday. The hospital doctors realize his condition was serious and sent for Mrs. Freerksen who arrived Friday afternoon, some two hours after he had died. Iowa City police were asked to locate his car, and were unable to do so. L. H. Benton of Eagle Grove found the car at Toledo after inquiring at all garages between Iowa City and Toledo. Bearings were burned out and the engine in the 1940 Mercury sedan practically ruined.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Kubitschek & Kastler Funeral home with burial in Rose Hill cemetery.
