Joleen Ann Chiodo

October 8, 1957 ----- July 11, 2019

Joleen Ann Chiodo, 61, died Thursday, July 11, 2019 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Memorial Services will be 10 am Wednesday, July 17th at St. Anthony Catholic Church (15 Indianola Road). A gathering will follow at the American Legion Hall (1813 SE 1st Street).

Joleen was born October 8, 1957 in Belmond, Iowa to Leland and Beulah (Goll) Hummel. As a child she was very active in 4-H, church activities, Garner Saddle Club, basketball, track, and horse shows. She was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Reformed U.C.C. in Klemme, Iowa. Joleen graduated from Klemme High School in 1976. In High School she received the Senior Vocal and Band Awards. Joleen attended Iowa State University where she participated in the ISU Band for 2 years.

Joleen worked in a Cap Factory in Westminster, Colorado and Par Products in Klemme. She continued her education at DMACC taking computer programing courses. Later she taught computer classes where she met her husband, Ben Chiodo. They were married at Living History Farms. Joleen worked at Wells Fargo, retiring after 30 years of service.

Joleen was known as “Sunshine” to her friends and family. Her group of close friends met at least once a month for many years. She enjoyed many fishing trips with her husband, bird watching, and hog roasts on the family farm, riding motorcycles around Denver, CO, bowling and loved spending time with her pets. Joleen had many talents and was known for her cross stitch pictures and gifts, crochet blankets, cooking and flower gardening. She loved her German Norwegian baked goods and many Italian foods.

She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Left to celebrate her life are her husband, Ben; children: Bunny (Tim) Norton, Margo (Corey Hackett) Castillo, Lynn (Phil) Dedrick, Dena (Kelly Storm) Chiodo; grandchildren: Keirnan, Seighan and Caprial Norton, Amber and Danielle Castillo, Wraith Dedrick, Brial, Ben Chiodo Trenton and Ariana Storm; father, Leland Hummel; sister, Diane Hummel (Curt) Stadtlander; niece, Holly (Ronnie) Vickers; nephew, Andy (Aubrey) Stadtlander. Joleen was preceded in death by her mother; and her beloved cats, Cali Jo & Gina.
