Hans Peter Norgaard, the son of Christian and Ane (Swendsen) Norgaard was born June 10, 1900 in Ose, Denmark where he received his early education. In 1920, Hans came to America, settling in the Royal area where he worked on farms. Hans married Marie Christina Bottker on May 18, 1924 in Rowan, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed in the Coulter, Iowa area for 5 years before moving to the Spencer community. He farmed southeast of town for many years until he retired in 1955 and moved into Spencer.

Hans was an active member of his community. He was a longtime member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Trinity Pioneers. Hans formed the Sunset Apartment Group, and it was the driving force behind its development. In addition he served on the City Council and was selected as Spencer's Citizen of the year in 1983. Mr. Norgaard passed away at the Spencer Hospital on August 15, 1984 at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; 1 son, Dale Leroy; 3 grandchildren; 3 brothers: Svend, Hans and Otto; and 3 sisters: Kristine Bach, Anna Nielsen and Elvina Gregersen.

Mr. Norgaard is survived by 2 sons and their wives: Earl & Phyllis of Dickens and Alvin & Donna of Spencer, Fern & Harold Sembach of Spencer; Alan Norgaard of Des Moines (a grandson they raised since was 5 months old), 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 1 sister Mrs. Margretha Jessen of Denmark: other relatives and friends.
