John Allen Nelson, the son of Frank and Ollie Mae Mosley Nelson, was born Oct. 24, 1920, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He grew up in the Eagle Grove area and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in the class of 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 until 1946 and attained the rank of Sgt. and served in the European African Middle East War Zone. On July 29, 1956, he was united in marriage with Eunice Pringle at Emmetsburg, Iowa. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove. During his life, he was a brick mason and had helped to build the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove and Friendship Haven and Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove and the Brickmasons and Masonry Union at Fort Dodge.
He died on Monday morning, April 14, 1986 at the Nelson home in Eagle Grove at the age of 65 years, five months and 20 days.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice Nelson of Eagle Grove; two daughters, Vicki, Mrs. Joe Caligur of Florissant, Mo., and Denise Nelson of Fort Dodge; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Schaeffer of Eagle Grove; Margaret, Mrs. Jim Louberto of Des Moines; Vesta Mae, Mrs. Duane Anderson of Renwick; two brothers, Clifford Nelson of Eagle Grove and Edgar Nelson of Milton, Pa. and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters, Viola, Nell, Ione, and Stella Pauline.
Funeral services for John A. Nelson, 65, of Eagle Grove, were held on Wednesday, April 16,1986 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Christ in Eagle Grove. Rev. Kenneth R. Reiter, church pastor officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
