April 21, 1865 --- February 1, 1953

Mrs. Hattie Foss, 87, died Sunday at the hospital in Cherokee where she had been a patient for some time. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Wilson Chapel and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Foss is survived by three sons, John Humphreys of Cleveland, Ohio, William Humphreys of Waterloo, and Thos. Humphreys of Maxwell, Calif.

Obituary

Hattie L. I. Braffell [Broeffle] Foss was born on April 21, 1865 at Mendota, Ill., the 9th and youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Braffell [Broeffle] and passed away at Cherokee, Iowa, February 1st, 1953 at the age of 87 years 9 months and 30 days.

In 1886 she was united in marriage to John Humphreys and to this union were born 4 sons, John, of Cleveland, Ohio, William, of Waterloo, Iowa, Thomas, of Maxwell, Calif., and a son Martin who passed away at the age of 13. She was also preceeded in death by her husband in 1895.

In 1897 she was united in marriage with Marvin Foss who also proceeded her in death. She moved to the vicinity of Eagle Grove in the early 1880's and spent the rest of her life in or near Eagle Grove.

She united with the Baptist church about the turn of the century.

Besides her sons she leaves four grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends to mourn her passing.
