John Jensen Flatebo was born on January 11, 1909, the son of Jens and Rogna Flatebo in Norway. He attended school in Norway before moving to the United States in 1926, at the age of 17.

John was united in marriage to Geraldine Hansen of Goldfield on March 26, 1936, at Boone. The couple lived near Eagle Grove all of their married life. They moved to their current address in Eagle Grove after John's retirement from farming in 1974.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

John Flatebo died at his home in the early morning of February 1, 1989.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Martin and Reidor; two sisters, Gennie and Mary, both of Norway.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Robert, Rockford, Ill., and Carrol, Eagle Grove; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Mary) Howard, Clear Lake; and Joanne, Rockford; two brothers, Jens and Severt, both of Norway; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral, services were held on February 3, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
