Laura Cecile Lowmiller Young
16 February 1902 ---- 8 January 1979

Mrs. Cecile Young, age 76, of Menahga passed away on January 8 at the home of her son, Gene Allen, in Wadena, Minnesota.

Cecile Allen Young was born February 16, 1902 in Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. John Bolin. Her death was caused from a heart attack. As a baby she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Elias Lowmiller. She attended grade school and high school in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Cecile was married to Clarence Allen on September 11, 1923 in Fairmont, Minnesota. To this union two sons were born: Clement, who died in infancy and Eugene, who lives in Wadena. They lived in Iowa until 1933 when they moved to Menahga, Minnesota. Here they lived and worked at the Health Home on Stocking Lake. Later they moved into Menahga. Clarence was the policeman in Menahga. Later they owned and operated the Twin Pines Resort on Stocking Lake. This is part of her life which she recalled with such happy memories. She loved the lake and the many friends they made while serving the hunters and fishermen who returned year after year for their favorite sports, the hospitality, Clarence’s guiding services, and Cecile’s unforgettable chicken dinners.

Since the death of her husband, Clarence on August 26, 1961, Cecile made her home in Menahga. On September 19, 1962, Cecile married Elmer Young, a long family friend, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Menahga until his death December 3, 1971. Cecile was a charter member of the Menahga V.F.W. Auxiliary and was affiliated with the Menahga United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers, one son Clement, Clarence Allen and Elmer Young. Surviving to mourn her passing are her son, Gene and his wife Irma Allen of Wadena; two granddaughters, Norma and her husband Tech Sgt. Gil Sether of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and Marilyn and her husband Tony Uselman of Wadena; three great granddaughters, Lorna Sether, Sheri Sether and Jennifer Davis. Cecile will be missed by many many relatives including her sister-in-law, Ethel and her husband Jack Rorman, their son Jack, his wife Betty, their children and the grandchildren in the Grand Forks area. Also many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families in Iowa, plus a host of friends.

Funeral services were held in the Menahga United Methodist Church on January 12, 1979, with Reverend Elmer Huchel officiating. Mary and Jean Dissmore sang and were accompanied by Mrs. Elsa Anderson. Interment will be in the Menahga Cemetery.
