Last Rites Held Wednesday for Clarence R. Allen

This community was shocked to learn of the death of Clarence R. Allen on Saturday, August 26. He passed away at his home in Nimrod at 3:30 a.m., death was caused by a heart attack.

He was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa on January 23, 1903, to Charles and Olive L. Allen. As a boy he lived in Eagle Grove, and in 1909 moved to Minnesota with his parents, and lived in Emmons, Kiester, Guckeen and Winnebago. He was married to Miss Laura Cecile Lowmiller of Eagle Grove on September 11, 1923 in Fairmont, Minnesota.
Following their marriage they lived in Winnebago, Minnesota, Eagle Grove, Iowa; Alden Pequot and Hopkins, Minnesota; Ontario, Canada; Robbinsdale, Menahga, Nimrod and Wadena.

In 1933 they moved to Menahga, and settled at the old Health Home. He served as marshal of Menahga, and as Forest Ranger for the Minnesota State Forestry Department in Nimrod. For many years he was in the resort business on Stocking Lake near Menahga. He spent a short time in Wadena where he served as Justice of the Peace. At the time of his death he was operating a restaurant in Nimrod.

He is survived by his wife, a son Loren Eugene; two grandchildren, Norma Jean and Marilyn Mae; and two sisters, Mrs. John Rorman (Ethel) of Braham and Mrs. Frank Friesen (Olive) of Menahga. A son, Charles Clement died in infancy.

Funeral services were held in the First Methodist church in Menahga on Wednesday, August 30, with Rev. J. Marshall Newton, pastor of the church and Rev. Royal Steinar of Wadena officiating. Shell Lodge, A.F. of Park Rapids conducted the Masonic memorial service at the cemetery. The pallbearers were Royce Burlingame, William Carpenter, Herbert Dobson, Arthur Ousley, Charles Smith and John Stigman. Interment was in the Menahga cemetery.
