Fred A. Cotton, 89, died Saturday evening at Trinity East Hospital, Fort Dodge, where he had been a patient since June 12. He fell and broke his leg that day and was taken to the hospital for care.

He is survived by his wife and one brother, Earl Cotton of Yucca Valley, Calif.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Marion Blake. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Cotton was a long time resident of Eagle Grove having moved here in 1895 with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Cotton, when he was 11 years old. He was a long time employee of the Chicago and North Western R.R. in the store house department, as a railroad brakeman and later in the accounting department.

He was a member of the Congregational Church, UCC, and was a 51 year member of the Masonic Lodge.

Masonic services were conducted at the Kastler Babcock Funeral Home Monday at 8 p.m.

Obituary

Fred Alfred Cotton was born July 12, 1884, at Wessington, S.D., the son of William Jacob and Almira Eliza Tilton Cotton.

The family moved to Eagle Grove in 1895, and Fred finished his schooling in the Eagle Grove schools.

He was employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in the Store Department, transferred to train service as a brakeman, then entered the Accounting and Engineering Department as Chief Clerk.

In 1930, Fred went into the insurance business for the Paul Revere Life Insurance Co. He retired in 1949.

He was united in marriage to Fannie Bandy of Eagle Grove on June 14, 1911 at Eagle Grove and the couple made their home in Eagle Grove.

Fred entered Trinity East Hospital, Fort Dodge, on June 12 and died there on July 7 at the age of 88 years, 11 months, and 25 days.

He is survived by his wife and one brother, Earl Cotton, of Yucca Valley, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and three sisters.

Fred was a member of the UCC Church and the Masonic Lodge. He was a 51 year member of the Lodge.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Rev. Marion Blake officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
