John Reider dies at his home here

Funeral services are being held this morning, Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for John Roger Reider, 74, former postmaster, who died late Saturday afternoon at his home. Reider had been ill with Parkinson's disease since 1967.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Mrs. Desmond (Suzanne) Collins, Toronto, Canada; three grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Edwin (Gloria) Lonning, Lompoc, Calif.

Reider was born at Eagle Grove and attended the schools here, graduating from the Eagle Grove High School in 1921. He also graduated from Columbia College, Dubuque, and Marquette University, Chicago, with a degree in law. He married Dorothy Kulas of Tama in 1931, and they moved to Eagle Grove in 1933. He was an attorney here for a few years, and in 1939 he became postmaster of the Eagle Grove Post Office. In 1947 he took a position with the post office as a rural mail carrier. He retired from the Post Office in 1967 because of his health.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Obituary

John Roger Reider passed away in his home at the age of 74 years, on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 20, 1979.

John was born March 12, 1905 in Eagle Grove to Stephen Matthew and Marie Siesseger Reider. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1921. He then went to Columbia College, Dubuque and Marquette University from where he graduated with a Law Degree in 1929.

On August 14, 1931, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Kulas of Tama. This union was blessed with one daughter, Suzanne. From 1933 to 1938 John operated a Law office. In 1939 he became post master. In 1947 he started as a rural route mail carrier. He retired in 1967 when he became ill with Parkinson's Disease.

John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Library Board, and the Chairman of the Wright County Polio Foundation.

Those who mourn his departure are his wife, Dorothy, daughter, Mrs. Desmond (Suzanne) Collins, Toronto, Canada, three grandchildren: Peter, Catherine and Matthew. One sister, Mrs. Edwin (Gloria) Lonning, Lompoc, Calif.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, George.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 24, 1979, 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Eagle Grove. Father Norman White officiated and burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary was held at Kastler Babcock DeYoung Funeral Home on Tuesday, Oct. 23, 1979 at 7 p.m.
