February 7, 1864 --- May 6, 1922

Well Known Engineer Died After Twelve-Hour Sickness. —Goitre the Cause.

Engineer Matt Ramer died at his home in this city early Saturday Morning. He had been in his usual health until Friday evening. He was not feeling very well and decided he would not go out on his run. He has been on Nos. 24 and 25 for a number of years. He went to the roundhouse himself and laid off and on his return home was attacked by convulsions and breathed his last a little before seven o'clock Saturday morning. His sickness and death came on so suddenly that neither of the boys, Fred, of Rockford, Ill., nor Leonard, of Luverne, could be notified of his sickness.

Mr. Ramer was among the original pioneer railroad men on the Northern Iowa division. He was respected and well liked by both the company and his fellow employees. He was quiet and unassuming in his manner and always faithful to his duty. The universal sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved relatives.
