Karen Pederson was born at Bomlens Sogn, near Langevaag, Norway, September 2, 1852, of the parents, Rasmus Sjursen Hovland and his wife, Margaret Orjansdatter. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bomlens church. In 1875 the family moved to the city of Haugesund. The 23rd day of June, 1876, she was married to Mr. Carl Pederson of Haugesund. In 1881 Mr. and Mrs. Pederson emigrated to America, and came to Story City, Iowa, the 2nd of June, where they lived three years. In 1884 they moved to Eagle Grove, where they have lived since. About two years ago Mrs. Pederson's health began to fail. The last six months her suffering has increased till she passed away Wednesday noon, age 69 years, 9 months and 1 day. She leaves her husband, Mr. Carl Pederson, and two brothers, Mr. Rasmus Hovland of Kanawha, Iowa, and Severt Hovland of Bradgate, Iowa.
Mr. and Mrs. Pederson are among the pioneers of the East Side Lutheran church in which Mrs. Pederson was an active member till her death. She had a childlike faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ. His will was supreme to her.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from the home and the East Side Lutheran church. The remains were laid to rest in the Rose Hill cemetery.
