January 20, 1895 --- July 21, 1934

The passing of Leonard Ramer occurred Saturday evening, July 28 [21]. He was 39 years of age. He was born and reared in Eagle Grove and was graduated from Sacred Heart high school.

As a boy he was industrious and always had a job. He began working in the Bostonia while still in high school and after graduation acquired a half interest in the business with J. J. Kist as his partner.

He joined the army in 1918 and after the armistice returned to Eagle Grove and after conducting the business for a while with his (then) partner, Chas. Deibler, sold his interest to Raymond Walters and entered the employ of the Northwestern railroad. For a short time, while learning the Morse code, he was assistant agent at Goldfield, and for several years was agent for the Northwestern at Luverne. He was very well liked there and his services were always satisfactory to the company. He was also operator in the offices here and later agent for the company at Morris.

He is survived by his wife and two children Mildred and Murial and one brother, Fred, of Rockford, Ill.

Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church Monday morning, at the same time as the services for his wife's mother, Mrs. Mentzer. Burial was in Calvary cemetery.

L. RAMER, 39, HANGS SELF IN BASEMENT

Self Destruction Accomplished About 9 P. M. Saturday While Family Was Away From Home.

Leonard Ramer, 39, was found hanging from a rafter in the basement at his home on Southwest 1st Street Saturday evening about 9:00 o'clock. A clothesline rope, doubled, and a small rocking chair were the instruments used in the tragedy. The family was away at the time arranging for the funeral of his wife's mother, Mrs. Mentzer who had died Thursday evening. Dr. Fisher was called but found that life had been extinct for several minutes. The coroner, Dr. Walker of Clarion, was summoned but he decided that no inquest was necessary as it was a plain case of suicide.

Despondency caused by nervous exhaustion is believed to have been the cause of the young man's successful attempt to take his own life.

Double funeral services were held at Sacred Heart church Monday morning for Mr. Ramer and Mrs. Mentzer with burial in Calvary cemetery. The obituary notice will be found elsewhere in this issue.
