Sadie Elizabeth Olson was born July 12, 1896, the daughter of Ole and Martha Olson Olson in Norway Township, Wright County. She received her education in Norway Township country school, and then attended the Ellsworth Conservatory of Music in Iowa Falls.
While finishing her music education at the University of Iowa, she met and later married Harold George Riley of Iowa City, on Sept. 21, 1920, at Waterloo.
Upon receiving his license to practice dentistry the couple moved to Eagle Grove where he opened his practice. He retired in 1965 due to ill health. He died in 1969.
Mrs. Riley continued living in their Eagle Grove home until October 31, 1984, when she entered the Rotary Ann Nursing Home in Eagle Grove.
She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Cecilian Music Club and the P.E.O. Chapter.
Sadie Elizabeth Riley died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home, September 2, 1992, at the age of 96 years, one month, and 20 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Joseph and Melvin Olson; four sisters, Florine McEwan, Mabel Olson, Nora Peterson and Irene Thompson.
She is survived by her son Roger of Des Moines; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, September 4, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Lyle Peters officiated at the 1 p.m. services. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
