Obituary

Roger Edwin Reuvers, son of John H. and Anna Reuvers, was born at Alton, Iowa, June 8, 1921. He died as the result of an auto accident at the Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, Sunday evening, August 4, 1946, at the age of 25 years, 1 month and 27 days. Close relatives surviving him are, besides his parents, three sisters, Arlene, Beverly and Janice Reuvers all at home; there are also other relatives to mourn his death and a great many friends In Eagle Grove and elsewhere.

Roger started to school in Alton but having moved to Eagle Grove with the family in 1923, he did his later grade and high school work here. He graduated with the class of 1939, after a high school experience of merit. He was school reporter, and student athletic manager, besides other activities. He had one year of Junior College work. In 1940 he worked for a time at the Princess theatre. Then he took employment as a brakeman for the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Co. where he was employed until he entered the service of his country.

In September, 1942, he entered the Army of the United States and was discharged a master sergeant, February 28, 1946. Most of his army experience was with a transportation unit and his work was to activate railway units. In recent months he was at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, assisting to restore records of former prisoners of war, and secure data for back pay to these men brought back from Japan. In April of this year, he again accepted employment with the Chicago and Northwestern Railway Co. as brakeman and was so employed until the time of his death.

During the pastorate of the Rev. Mr. Breaw, Roger united with the Methodist church, at the age of about fourteen years. He was active in the Sunday School, serving as assistant secretary, and participated in other organizations of the church. He was especially active in the youth work.

Roger was one of the outstanding young men of the community and the loss to his family is shared keenly by a great many Eagle Grove, people.

Services were held 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. Walter R. Ross officiating. Tributes were given by Mr. W. E. Warnes and Prof. C. E. Thorson.

Interment was in Rose Hill cemetery with military honors given by Clarence Shurtz Post No. 304, American Legion.
