January 13, 1887 ---- April 11, 1970

Steve C. Cattles, 83, of 2629 Elm Ave., a farmer and miner, died at 2:30 p. m. Saturday in St. Marys Hospital. He had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill for a few weeks. Mr. Cattles was born Jan. 13, 1887, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He moved to South Dakota in 1898 and attended high school in Lead. He helped open the Home Stake Gold Mine at Lead. In 1914 he came to the Grand Valley and 15 years ago he moved into Grand Junction. Survivors include his wife, the former Charlene Stockwell; a son, Clyde of Grand Junction; daughter, Mrs. June Files of Naturita; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was married in Grand Junction on July 23, 1917.
