W. Wayne Read, the son of James and Cora Read, was born April 15, 1907 in Perry Township, Miami County, Indiana.
He attended school in Indiana and high school at Deedsville, Indiana. Wayne moved to Iowa in 1938. He served in the US Army in 1942 and 1943.
He was united in marriage with Rosebud Christian of Eagle Grove on July 17, 1943 at Humboldt, Iowa. They lived in Dakota City for a time before moving to Eagle Grove in 1946.
He served as the first State Wildlife Trapper for the State of Iowa for a number of years, and was engaged in the trapping business until he suffered a heart attack on Saturday, November 1 and was taken to Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, where he died on Wednesday, November 5 at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 20 days. In addition to his trapping business, Wayne operated a painting business in the off season.
He is survived by his wife, Rosebud of Eagle Grove; one son, Dennis, of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Janice (Mrs. Dewey) Olson, Russellville, Ark., Beulah (Mrs. William) Miller, Webster City, and Jane (Mrs. Jerry) Frazier of Webster City. Also, 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Ivan and Clare; 2 sisters, Amy Wildman and Lydia Berger; 2 grandchildren, Dennis and Denice Klein; and 1 great grandchild, Jeanie Marie Soma.
Wayne was a life time member of the National Trappers Association and the NRA.
