CEDAR FALLS -- Virgil Christensen, 71, of Cedar Falls, died Wednesday, May 27, at Sartori Memorial Hospital of a heart attack. He was born Aug. 17, 1926, in Eagle Grove, son of Chris and Atta Jane Lewis Christensen. He married Gwen E. Kraft on June 28, 1952, in Wellman. Mr. Christensen received bachelor's and master's degree from Iowa State University, Ames. He had been head of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at Hawkeye Community College, retiring in 1989. He was past president of the Iowa Vocational and Technical Association.

Survived by: his wife; a son, Bill D. of Fort Dodge; a daughter, Jane E. Fosse of Maplewood, Minn.; three grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Norris of Clinton; and two brothers, his twin, Verne of Eagle Grove and Harvey of Denver, Colo. Preceded in death by: two brothers, Lewis and George.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Richardson Funeral Home, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m.

Memorials: may be directed to Virgil Christensen Scholarship through the Hawkeye Foundation or American Lung Association.

Virgil William Christensen was born August 17, 1926, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the son of Chris and Atta Jane Lewis Christensen. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. On June 28, 1952, he was united in marriage to Gwen E. Kraft in Wellman. He received both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Iowa
State University. He was head of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Iowa State Education Association and was Past President of the Iowa Vocational and Technical Association.

Virgil William Christensen died Wednesday, May 27, 1998 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls. Survivors include his wife, Gwen, Cedar Falls; one son, Bill D. Christensen, Fort Dodge; one daughter, Jane E. Fosse, and her husband, Dick, Maplewood, Minn.; one granddaughter; two grandsons; one sister, Mildred Norris, Clinton; two brothers, Harvey Christensen, Denver, Colo., and twin Verne Christensen, Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lewis and George Christensen.

Funeral services were held on Saturday. May 30, 1998 at 11 a.m. from the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls with Reverend Keith Scott officiating. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Cedar Falls. Richardson Service, Cedar Falls was in charge of arrangements.
