REV. LYLE E. PETERS
Des Moines --- Lyle E. Peters, 75, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church. Burial will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lost Grove Township Cemetery, Harcourt, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

Lyle was born on December 11, 1932 in Pilot Mound, IA., the son of C.O. and Elsie Peters. He graduated from Gowrie High School in 1951. He married Marvel Selander on September 13, 1952 at Zion Lutheran Church in Gowrie, IA. Lyle served with the US Army from 1953to 1955. He graduated from Buena Vista College in 19G0 and Lutheran Church of Theology, Rock Island Campus in 1964. From 1964 to 1971 he served as pastor at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Shenandoah, IA and at Luther Memorial Church in Des Moines. In 1971 he became Administrator Chaplain of Valborg Lutheran Home and later Executive Director of Luther Park, Des Moines. From 1982 to 1985 he served as Executive Director of Carroll Lutheran Village in Westminister, MD and later served as Administrator of St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, IA. until 1990.

At that time he returned to parish ministry serving Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove until his retirement in 1996. During his retirement he served as interim pastor in Newton and Huxley and later as Visitation Pastor at St. John's Lutheran Church, Des Moines. He also volunteered at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Marvel, son, Michael Peters (Diane) of Urban-dale, daughters, Janell Archibald (Terry) of Des Moines and Carol Quick (Stephen) of Wichita, KS., eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, sister Jean Strand (Vincent) of Springfield, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Paul, Carl, Robert and great-granddaughter, Grace Kesterson. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Acres Good Samaritan Fund or St. John's Lutheran Church Fine Arts Fund.
