John D. (Cap) Springer, 108 North Riverside Drive, died about 10:30 p.m. Sunday in an Ames nursing home. He had been in ill health for the past two years. Born in Oskaloosa, he attended William Penn College and Iowa State University. He was a veteran of World War I, and had at one time been in the newspaper business at Eagle Grove. He was retired from the U.S. Army. was a member of Friends Church at Oskaloosa; the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Ware, Carroll; two brothers, Clinton and Spencer, both of Oskaloosa and four grandchildren; Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Adams Funeral Home with the Rev. Hector Thompson of the Episcopal Church in charge. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
