William Joseph Forbes was born January 14, 1919, at Little Rock, Ark., the son of William G. and Anna Klocke Forbes. He attended school at Templeton, Sacred Heart School, Eagle Grove, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School, and Eagle Grove Junior College.
He worked for Lockheed Aircraft in California, before entering the U. S. Army Air Force at Long Beach, Calif., March 22, 1944. He was honorably discharged May 3, 1946, and returned to Eagle Grove to work on the Chicago Northeastern Railroad. He retired as an engineer in 1982.
William was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, and the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers.
William Forbes died after a lengthy illness at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion, November 25, at the age of 68 years, 10 months, and 11 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Maxine Keppers, one brother, Dr. John Forbes; one niece, Patty Keppers; and one nephew, Craig Anthony Ridgeway.
He is survived by a brother, Richard Forbes, Eagle Grove; three sisters, Mrs. Donald (Marjorie) Winge, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Dick (Marilyn) Parent, Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Jerry (Lois Ann) Ridgeway, Ankeny; and a special friend, Helen Bluhm, Mason City.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 28, 1987, at the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove with the Rev. Wayne Droessler officiating. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
