William Cole Dies Suddenly

Former Citizen Passed Away at His Farm Home in Perkins County, S. D.

William Cole died suddenly at his home in Perkins county, S. D., Tuesday, July 18th. He was in the barnyard milking when he was stricken with heart failure and died almost instantly. Mrs. Cole discovered the body after a short search when he did not respond to her call to come in to supper. It was necessary for her to walk a mile and a half to the nearest neighbor for help.

They were living in one of the recently settled counties in South Dakota, 35 miles from a railroad station.

Obituary

William Cole, son of W. H. and Lavina Cole, was born in Warrensville, Cuyahoga county, Ohio, on October 10, 1857. In 1866 the family removed to Ames, settling on a farm which is now a part of the city of Ames. In the spring of 1882 he, with his brother, came to the newly platted ground of Eagle Grove, where they established a plant for the manufacture of brick. That same year he married Louise Perkins and to them were born five children, one son dying in infancy. In 1910 he went to Perkins county, S.D., and took up land under the homestead law. There he remained improving his land and raising stock until his death, which came suddenly while he was about his farm duties on Tuesday evening, July 20th. [July 18]

The remains were brought to Eagle Grove and services were held at the home of Mrs. Margaret Cole on Tuesday afternoon. Rev W. G. Muhleman, pastor of the M. E. church, had charge of the services and preached from Job 10-22. The body was placed to rest in Rosehill cemetery.

He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife; a son, Carroll, of Chicago; their daughters, Mrs. Willard Sebree, of Canton, Mrs. W. E. Sprau, of South Pekin, and Miss Genevieve, of Chicago, and two brothers, John Cole of Ames, and Henry Cole, of this city. The following out-of-town relatives were present at the funeral: W. R. Sebree, of Canton, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Sprau, son and daughter, of South Pekin; Carroll and Genevieve Cole, of Chicago; Mrs. J. A. Pinkerton, of Marshalltown; John and B. J. Cole and Misses Elizabeth and Avis, of Ames.
