June 1857 ---- October 29, 1900

Monday evening at 10:30 o'clock occurred the death at his home in the northwest part of town, of John Dowd. He had been sick for some time with this last attack and had been a sufferer from consumption for some months. He took to his bed and was gradually borne down by the force of the disease until the weakened body was unable to bear its load and death came.

John Dowd was born in Dubuque county about forty-five years ago. Some eighteen years ago he was married and to bless the home have come five children all of whom are living. He leaves besides the wife and children, a mother, two brothers and six sisters. Thomas Dowd and the mother arrived from Waterloo Monday a few hours before death came. Mr. Dowd had been a resident of Eagle Grove for some years and was well known here. He has been industrious and has worked at his trade and anything else he could find until broken down by disease when he was compelled to stop. The sorrowing family have the sympathy of the entire community in their affliction.
