Robert Derscheid was born April 5, 1908, on the family farm west of Eagle Grove, the son of Henry and Mary Emerick Derscheid.

He attended the Derscheid country school, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School.

He was united in marriage to Esther Madson, of Algona, February 29, 1936, at Clarion. The couple farmed southwest of Eagle Grove for two, years, then moved to the family farm "Forest View Farm", just west of the Boone River and Country Club, Eagle Grove.

Robert was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, and International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), and Farm Bureau, and was a 4-H leader.

Robert Derscheid died at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home, November 26, 1987, at the age of 79 years, seven months, and 21 days. Robert had been in ill health for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Harley and Glen and two sisters, Esther Derscheid and Florence Derscheid.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, two sons, Ronald, Eagle Grove; Bruce, Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters, Phyllis Melchert, Marion; Susan Derscheid, Eagle Grove; four grandchildren, Linda Melchert, Kristin Kula, Deborah Melchert and David Derscheid; two great grandchildren. Andrea and Michael Kula; two sisters, Pearl Derscheid, Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Milton (Helen) "Chick" Orth of Iowa City.

Funeral services were held Monday, November 30, 1987, at 10 30 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. The Rev. Scott C. Hall officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
