Derscheid killed in accident

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the United Methodist Church for Paul Lester Derscheid, 25, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Derscheid Clarion.

The former rural Clarion resident died Monday from injuries suffered in a one-car accident 20 miles west of Des Moines.

Derscheid, living in Ames, was taken to Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following the crash at the junction of Interstate 80 and Iowa 90.

Paul Lester Derscheid, 25, of 1462 Truman Place, Ames, formerly of R.R. No. 3, Clarion, died Monday morning, March 30 [20], at the Methodist Hospital, Des Moines. Death was due to injuries received in a one car accident 20 miles West of Des Moines on Interstate 80.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today (Thursday), March 23, at the United Methodist Church; Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Donald L. Forbes officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery with the Wilson Funeral Home in charge.

He is survived by four brothers: Raymond of Clarion; Ted of Ames; Dale and Scott at home and one sister, Miss Sally Derscheid, Cedar Falls; his parents, Richard and Hester Stanford Derscheid, R.R. No. 3, Clarion, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marcelena [Marcelean] Blue, Webster City.

Paul was born August 31, 1946 at Webster City. He was a graduate of Clarion High School and the Universal Trade School, Omaha, Nebr. He was a mechanic for Mike's Frame and Alignment Body Shop, Ames. He served in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam for one year. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove.

Funeral services for Paul Lester Derscheid were held Thursday, March 23, 2 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, with Rev. Donald L. Forbes officiating. Interment was held on the family lot in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Wilson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Obituary

Paul Lester Derscheid, son of Richard and Hester Stanford Derscheid, was born August 31, 1946 in Webster City, Iowa. He attended schools in Wright County and graduated from the Clarion High School with the class of 1965 and the Universal Trade School in Omaha, Nebraska.

He was baptized in the Methodist Church and later became a member of the church in 1961.

He was inducted into the Army in December of 1966 and following six months training in the United States he served one year in Viet Nam. He completed his two year tour of duty at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Paul had been employed at Cambiers Chevrolet in Clarion before going into service and returned there for a short time before going to Ames, where he was employed at Mike's Body Shop at the time of his death.

Paul died Monday morning at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines of injuries sustained in a one-car accident early Monday morning. He was 25 years, 6 months and 19 days of age at the time of his passing.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. Lester Stanford; his paternal grandfather, John Derscheid; and his step-grandfather, Gurney Blue of Webster City, Iowa.

He is survived by his parents; four brothers; Raymond of Clarion; Ted of Ames, Dale and Scott at home; One sister, Sally Derscheid of Cedar Falls, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Marcelena [Marcelean] Blue, Webster City.
