Helen Irene Metcalf was bom on July 24, 1933, in Spring Green, Wis., to Frank W. and Sylvia M. Vail Metcalf. She graduated from Spring Green High School in 1951 and moved to Madison, Wis., and worked for the Wisconsin Department of Conservation. She was united in marriage with Oscar Lee Davis on April 4, 1954, at the Wyoming Valley Methodist Church in Spring Green. Shortly after their wedding, they were transferred to Ladd Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska, where they were stationed until June, 1956. While living in Alaska, she sang in the Ladd AFB Chorus at the signing of the constitution of the proposed State of Alaska. They moved to Monroe, La. The family also lived in Cobb, Wis., DeKalb, Ill., and Denton, Texas. They moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, in 1962, and returned in 1970. She participated in the church choir and in the Eagle Grove Chorale. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and Sunday School teacher. She retired from Farmland Industries April 26, 1991. She volunteered for the Department of Human Services and later was employed by Wright County Department of Health. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Eagle Grove United Methodist Church.

Helen Davis died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, Iowa, at the age of 65.

She is survived by her husband, Oscar Davis, Eagle Grove; two sons, Jeff Davis, and wife, Linda, Sumner, Wash., and Jim Davis, and wife, Lisa, Monticello, Iowa; one daughter, Laura J. Pearson, and husband, Michael, Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ruth A. Kemper of South Dakota; one brother, Frank W. Metcalf and wife, Janet, Delaware, Ohio; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove with Reverend William E. Ballard and Reverend Lynn Ryon, District Superintendent, officiating. Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.
