April 29, 1875 --- December 4, 1916

The funeral services of Mrs. C. R. Belknap were held from the Methodist Episcopal church at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. M. E. Nethercut, the pastor. A large number of neighbors and friends gathered to pay their last respect to their departed friend.

Julia Dignan was born at Troy Center, near Eagle Grove, Iowa on April 29, 1875. Her girlhood was spent on the farm near to nature. She attended the Troy Center school and later the Eagle Grove high school. From there she went to Nora Springs Seminary and Cornell college. She began teaching at the age of seventeen and taught when she was not attending school for several years.

In the spring of 1898 she was married to C. R. Belknap, making their home on a farm near Goldfield until 1902, when they moved to Ceylon, Minn., residing on a farm until January, 1915 when they removed to Ames. Three children were born of this union, Willis, aged sixteen, Blanche, twelve and Alice nine. She died at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines, December 4th, 1916.

Besides these children and her husband, she leaves to mourn her loss, her mother: Mrs. E. Dignan and three sisters at Eagle Grove, Mrs. P. T. Frandsen, Mrs. F. E. Newburn, and Miss Catherine Dignan and Mrs. Chas. Young of Cooperstown, N.D., and a brother, J. W. Dignan, a lawyer of Oakland, California. She united with the Congregational church in 1894 and after her marriage she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was an active and useful member until her death. -- Ames Times
