9 September 1890 ---- 29 December 1950

Hurl DeWitt Talmage, born September 9, 1890 at Wabash, Ind., to Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Talmage, died suddenly in his sleep early Friday morning, Dec. 29.

He attended schools in Wabash, the Winter's School of Engraving, Chicago, the Bradley Watchmakers' School, Peoria, Ill., and has his Certificate in Horology from the Wisconsin Institute of Horology.

On April 4, 1919 he married Lettie Johnson of Eagle Grove with whom he made his home in Indiana and Illinois. A daughter, Emma Laura, was born in Kewanee, Ill. The daughter married H. S. Sawyer, DDS, now serving with the U. S. Army in Austria. She is with him in Austria and was therefore unable to attend funeral services.

A brother, Alber, preceded in death, as an infant. His father died in his Indiana home in February, 1944.

The Talmage’s bought their home in Eagle Grove in 1935 and moved here the following year where Mr. Talmage has since followed his profession as watchmaker and engraver.

He was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church and of the American Legion, having served in World War I.

Surviving, besides his wife and daughter, are his mother, Mrs. A. B. Talmage of Wabash, Ind., and four brothers: Gilbert, of Wabash, Stuart of Joliet, Ill., Daniel of Oak Park, Ill., and Rex of Oregon City, Ore.

Services were conducted at the Wilson Funeral Chapel Wednesday, Jan. 3, with sermon by the Rev. Kenneth R. Torvik. Mrs. M. G. Boe presided at the organ and Mrs. Justin Thebiay sang “In The Garden” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Interment was at Rose Hill cemetery.
