Lawrence Offenhauser, Sr. Died Monday Evening, December 24, 1924

Lawrence Offenhauser, Sr., died at the home of his son, Garnet, in this City Monday evening. He had been seriously ill for several weeks. He was a baker by trade and formerly conducted the Eagle Bakery. He was a competent workman and one of the best bakers in the state. Mr. Offenhauser was 63 years, 11 months and 14 days of age. Two of the boys, Garnet and Chester, are residents of this city. The remains will be taken to Shenandoah for burial. Funeral services will be held at the Offenhauser residence on South Jackson Avenue Thursday afternoon at three o'clock. The relatives have the sympathy of their many friends in their sorrow.

Lawrence Frederick Offenhauser was born Jan. 8, 1861, at Chillicothe, Ross Co., Ohio, and died at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Dec. 22, 1924, at the age of 63 years, 11 months, and 14 days. On July 4, 1881, he was joined in marriage to Eliza Jane Andricks, who died Dec., 22, 1893. To this union five children were born. The oldest died in infancy. The surviving are Mrs. Cora Peterson of Charlton, Iowa; Harry E. of Dallas Center, Iowa; Mrs. Fletta Wilson of Madison, Mo.; Guy E. of Palmyra, Mo.

In the year 1895 Mr. Offenhauser was united in marriage with Lulu Owen of Dallas, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, Garnet, of Glenville, Minn., Chester of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Fred and Lawrence of Des Moines, Iowa, and Ralph, who died at the age of two years; Juanita of Glenville, Minn.; and Iona, Des Moines. Thus ten children survive. All were present at the funeral which was held at Eagle Grove, Iowa, except one daughter, Mrs. Fleta Wilson, of Madison, Mo.; who was unable to come. At the funeral, six of his sons were the pall bearers, Harry, Guy, Garnett, Chester, Fred and Lawrence.

In addition to mourn their loss, Mr. Offenhauser leaves 18 grandchildren, four sisters and one brother. The sisters are Mrs. Warren Fishbaugh of Shenandoah, Iowa; Mrs. Daisy Warner of Omaha; Mrs. Lon Clarke of Washington, and Mrs. Ed Carter of Omaha. His brother Fred, lives in Los Angeles.

The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church. He always believed in his Savior, and during his fatal illness he meditated on the word of God, and at last yielded himself to his Savior, and died with a peaceful smile on his face.
