September 19, 1893 --- February 21, 1985

Mabel Elizabeth Hansen, the daughter of Joseph D. and Lena Summerville McComber, was born on Sept. 19, 1893, at Ayershire, Iowa, and later moved to Wright County as a small child.

She grew up on the family farm northwest of Eagle Grove and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School and later graduated from Morningside College at Sioux City, Iowa. She was united in marriage with Alfred C. Hansen on Oct. 15, 1915 at the home of her parents in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home on the present Hansen farmstead, southwest of Goldfield, where they lived together for 69 years.

She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church, the Evergreen DOC, the Evergreen Sporting Association, the Eagle Grove Garden Club and was a flower judge for the Garden Clubs of Iowa for many years. She was a 4-H leader for many years and was a sponsor of the Jr. Girls Garden Club, also.

She died on Thursday afternoon, Feb. 21, 1985, at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion at the age, of 91 years, 5 months and 2 days.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred C. Hansen of rural Goldfield and a sister, Mrs. Betty Wearda of Tucson, Ariz., and several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, William and Joe.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mabel E. Hansen, age 91, of rural Goldfield, were held on Mon., Feb. 25, 1985 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield. Rev. Ken Peterson, church pastor and Rev. George DenHartog of Fort Dodge officiated. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation was held on Sunday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
