June 18, 1895 --- December 20, 1979

Mrs. Alger (Myrtle) Evans, 84, died Thursday, December 20, 1979, at the Clarion Hospital, Clarion, where she had been a patient since Monday, Dec. 17.

Myrtle Crane, daughter of R.D. and Ella Moran Crane, was born June 18, 1895, in Story County near Nevada, Iowa. She attended school in Story County until she was 15, then finished her schooling in Dows.

She was united in marriage to Orin Alger Evans March 7, 1923, in Hampton. They lived in Marshall County then moved east of Dows, where they farmed. In 1939 they moved to Eagle Grove where he worked for the Co-op Elevator then Boone Valley.

Myrtle had been ill for the past year.

She was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Legion Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors and church circle.

Survivors include her husband, Alger, Eagle Grove; one son, Darrel Evans, Clarion, three daughters, Mrs. Don (Darlene) Watts, Clarion; Mrs. Silas (Ellen) Barnes, Albany, Ga.; Lois Patterson, Richmond, Va.; 12 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Lillian Crane, Mason City.

Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, and one sister.

Funeral services were held Saturday Dec. 22 at 9:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Rev. Marvin Berkeland officiated and burial was held, in Rose Hill Cemetery.
