Olin Gerald Engh (1898-1990)

Olin Gerald Engh was born on March 12, 1898, the son of Knute J. and Emma Larsen Engh, at Morris, Ill. He received his education in the Goldfield Iowa school system.

He was united in marriage to Docia Garnier of Corwith in 1920, at the Corwith Baptist Church. The couple farmed near Corwith until Docia's death in 1927. Following the death of his wife, Olin moved to Eagle Grove.

On December 19, 1937, Olin was united in marriage to Esther Thompson of Kanawha at the Evangelical Lutheran parsonage in Eagle Grove.

The couple made their home in Eagle Grove where Olin was employed by various businesses. His first employment in Eagle Grove was with Dunkel's Food Market and Martin's Grocery. He managed the A&P Grocery in Lake City and Eagle Grove. He also worked at the Dahlberg Garage and as a carpenter for Frank Olson. He was employed by Green Bay Lumber Co., Eagle Grove, for 10 years, and with RoJohn Insulation, Fort Dodge, for 12 years.

He retired in 1963 and two days later started at the Eagle Grove Greenhouse where he worked for 20 years.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, participating in the choir there, and was a member of the Choral Union. He was also an adult Sunday School teacher within the church.

Olin Gerald Engh died on February 16, 1990, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 91 years, 11 months, and four days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant twin sister; one brother, John; two sisters, Mrs. Art (Emma) Olson; and Mrs. Hal (Anna) Gaston.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, Eagle Grove; two sons, Gary, Oxford; and Galen, Doylestown, Pa.; one daughter, Mrs. V. A. (Geraldine) Kibler, Newton, Ill.; two brothers, William and Emery, both of Kanawha; one sister, Mrs. C. W. (Ruth) RoJohn of Fort Dodge; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove on February 20 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Maynard Moen officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
