Edwin Richard Nelson, was born in Norway Township, Humboldt County, Iowa, on Dec. 13, 1890, the son of Matt and Matina Madison Nelson, who were both born in Langland, Denmark, and later moved to the United States of America.

Edwin grew up on the family farm and attended the rural schools and graduated from the Goldfield High School.

He was united in marriage with Carrie Gerdes of Britt on March 1, 1916, and to this union was born a daughter, Marion. Mrs. Carrie Nelson died in 1918.

Later, Edwin was married to Ella Ulvin of Thor on Feb. 26, 1925, and the couple lived and farmed near Goldfield for many years. She died in 1964.

On Dec. 3, 1965, he was united in marriage with Luella Christensen of Eagle Grove and they lived on the family farm near Goldfield. She died in 1972.

Edwin was a hard working man and was devoted to his family, his church, his community and to farming. He was a long-time member of the United Presbyterian Church and the Evergreen Sporting Association.

He died on Saturday night, June 15, 1985, at the Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, where he had been a patient for the past several days. He attained the age of 94 years, six months and two days. For the past two years, he had been a resident of the Humboldt Care Center briefly and then the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove.

He is survived by his daughter, Marion and her husband, Dr. Dietrich Bieser of Dayton, Ohio; a brother, Glenn Nelson of Manson; three grandchildren, Marianne and her husband, James Longacre of Cincinnati, Ohio; Charles and his wife, Nancy Bieser of Cleveland, Ohio; Dietrich N. Bieser of Cleveland, Ohio; three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Charles and Carrie all who live with their parents in Ohio; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death, by his parents, his wives, two sisters, Nellie Bangston and an infant sister, Edna Nelson; four brothers, Harold, Alfred, Reuben and Clarence Nelson.

Funeral services for Edwin R. Nelson, 94, of rural Goldfield, were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 1985 at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield. Rev. Victor Victoria, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home on Tuesday.
