Joseph Edwin Maier was born February 1, 1915, the son of Joe and Sarah Belle Hamer Maier, in Wright County. He attended country school in rural Wright County. He worked with his father on the family farm before owning and operating his own land.

He was united in marriage to Lorene M. LaBarr on November 28, 1940, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. The couple made their home on the farm until moving to Eagle Grove in 1989.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree), and the Farm Bureau.

Joseph Edwin Maier died at the Hamilton County Public Hospital in Webster City, August 10, 1992 at the age of 77 years, six months, and nine days.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, John Crovisier.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Gloria) Wepel; and Mrs. Roy (Janet) Sanders, both of Eagle Grove; two brothers, Richard Maier, Ames; and Bernard Maier of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Lucille Crovisier of Eagle Grove; Mrs. Jack (Virginia) Maher of Westfield, N.J.; three-grandchildren, Robert and Rodney Wepel, and Brad Sanders, all of Eagle Grove; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 13, at the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove, with the Rev. Wayne Droessler officiating at the 10 a.m. service Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Kastler-Babcock Services, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
