August 19, 1915 --- December 31, 1982

Donald LeRoy Gillespie, the son of Harley R. and Myrtle N. Haas, Gillespie, was born at Renwick, Iowa on August 19, 1915. He grew up and attended the rural schools in the Renwick area. On June 30, 1935, he was united in marriage with Vera E. Bogard at Renwick, Iowa. To this union were born six children. The family lived in the Renwick-Goldfield area for many years. During World War II, Donald served in the U.S. Navy. In 1965, the family moved to Clarion. He was a member of the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield.

He died on Friday afternoon December 31, 1982 at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Mason City where he had been receiving treatment. He attained the age of 67 years, four months and 14 days.

He is survived by his wife, Vera of Clarion; four sons, Kenneth of Kansas City, Keith of Rolfe, Harley of Webster City; Everett of Council Bluffs; two daughters, Karen, Mrs. Kenneth Pedersen of Marion, Leadayle, Mrs. Mark Rosendahl of Klemme; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Velva Crosson of Rockford, Ill.; a brother, C. M. Gillespie of rural Renwick. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Leadayle, Mrs. Don Brayton, and an infant grandson, Joshua Rosendahl.

Funeral services for Donald L. Gillespie were held on Monday, Jan. 3, 1983 at 10 A.M. at the Park Church of Christ in Goldfield. David Nissen, church pastor, officiated and burial was in the family lot at Elmwood Cemetery near Renwick. Visitation was held on Sunday at Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove.
