February 25, 1876 --- August 10, 1950

Henry Donly died Thursday, Aug. 10th in Cherokee where he had been a patient for a few days. Mr. Donly a retired C. and N.W. engineer had been in falling health for many months. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Ivan Anderson of this city, and Mrs. Lloyd Mattice of Sheldon.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist church, in charge of Rev. Walter Ross. The Masonic lodge conducted services at Rose Hill cemetery where interment was made.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. Susan Douglas and Marlon, Mary and Vera Crovisier and Carlyle Prlngle of Webster City; DeWayne Richardson and family of Clarion, and Mrs. Robert Mattice of Primghar.

Obituary

Henry Hews Donly, son of Hugh and Martha Donly, was born in LaPorte, Ind., Feb. 25, 1876. At the age of four he moved with his parents to a farm 2 miles west of Woolstock. They lived on the farm ten years and then moved to McCallsburg. Later they moved to Eagle Grove where Mr. Donly at the ago of 18, started calling train crews. He worked in the civil engineer's office a year, later became a brakeman on passenger trains, and then started firing, for the C. and N. W. railroad.

He was later set up as a steady engineer and remained that until the age of 66 when he retired from the railroad. He was then in the insurance business until ill health forced him to give up that business. He died at the age of 75 years on August 10th, death was due to a heart attack preceding an emergency surgery. He was a member of the Methodist church, Masonic Order, and an honorary member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, lodge number 211.

On Feb. 21, 1901 he was united in marriage to Edith M. France. To this union were born two daughters, Irma Anderson of Eagle Grove and Ardeth Mattice of Sheldon. Besides his wife and daughters, he is survived by his sons-in-law Ivan Anderson of Eagle Grove, and Dr. Lloyd Mattice of Sheldon; grandsons Daryl and Ronnie Anderson of Eagle Grove, Delvere Anderson of Boone, Cpl. Russell Anderson with the air corps in the Philippines, and Wayne and John Mattice of Sheldon. His parents and brother Porter Donly, and sister Mary Donly preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Saturday afternoon, Aug. 12th at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev Walter Ross. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery where the Masonic rites were given.
