Merle Eittreim was born on April 8, 1913, to Gustave and Anna Olson Eittreim at Jewell, Iowa. He lived at Radcliffe until age 11 when the family moved to Thor. He was confirmed at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. On January 10, 1941, he was united in marriage to Esther Morgan at Fort Dodge. He farmed by Vincent and East of Eagle Grove until the age of 70. He then did mowing for the City of Eagle Grove at the Rose Hill Cemetery for 10 years. He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove.

Merle Eittreim died on Friday, September 4, 1998, at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge at the age of 85.

Survivors include his wife, Esther, one daughter. Judith DeVoe, and friend, William Morgan, St. Cloud, Minn.; one son, David Eittreim and wife, Leota, Bellevue, Neb.; one brother, Stewart Eittreim and wife, Ilene, Ellsworth; one brother-in-law, Thomas Sebber, Atlantic; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Lorene Sebber.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 7, 1998, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove with Reverend Franz Schemmel officiating: Burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove.

Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
