February 9, 1890 --- April 26, 1988

Olaf Egesdal was born February 9, 1890, the son of Ole and Anna Christine Twedt Egesdal, at Stavanger, Norway. He was educated in Norway and came to the United States at the age of 21 years. He worked tiling and as a hired hand on the Lester Olson farm near Eagle Grove.

He was united in marriage to Jennie Louise Twedt of Eagle Grove, November 30, 1916, at Des Moines. Olaf worked for the Northwestern Railroad for 38 years. In 1936, the couple moved to a farm in Algona, for five years. In 1941, the couple moved to a farm near Eagle Grove. In 1971 they moved to an apartment in Eagle Grove. In 1983, his wife moved to the Rotary Ann Nursing Home due to ill health. Olaf moved to the Rotary Ann Apartments in 1984 and continued living there until November of 1986 when he moved to his son Oscar's home because of ill health. Jennie died October 17, 1986. Olaf entered the Clarion Memorial Hospital for the last 30 days of his life.

He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Railroad Brotherhood, and T.C.I. Union.

Olaf Egesdal died late Tuesday evening, April 26, 1988, at the age of 98 years, two months, and nine days.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie; parents; one grandson, Theodore, two half-brothers, Lars and Lauritz; two half-sisters, Lena and Oline; four brothers, John, Montious, Andrew, and Bernard, and four sisters, Louise, Elizabeth, Cecelia and Marie.

Olaf is survived by two sons, Oscar and Oliver of Eagle Grove, three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Selma) Davidson, Naples, Fla.; Mrs. Pete (Margaret) Bloudoff, Oroville, Calif.; and Delores Christopher, Eagle Grove; 15 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, April 28, at 11 a. m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Rev. Paul Schaedig officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
