February 28, 1860 --- February 7, 1936

Charles O. Eastness was born on February 28, 1860 in the Akers parish near Oslo, Norway, and died in his home on South Iowa Ave., Eagle Grove, Iowa, Friday morning, Feb. 7, 1936, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 10 days. He was baptized into Christ, received instruction and confessed his Christian faith in his youth.

In November, 1879, he came to America, to Toledo, Iowa, and that same fall he entered the service of the Chicago Northwestern Railroad Co. But during periods when he was not employed by the company he attended the Leander Clark College at Toledo, Iowa.

In the early eighties he was transferred to Eagle Grove and since then he has remained in the service of the C. & N. W. Ry, at Eagle Grove, until he was retired on pension in February, 1930.

On the 10th day of July, 1907, he was united in marriage to Miss Julia Haraldson Overland, who now survives him. Mr. and Mrs. Eastness have lived In Eagle Grove continuously since their marriage. Besides his wife he now leaves two nieces: Mrs. Ingvald Berg, Buffalo, N. D. and Mrs. Severson of Chicago, Ill., and one nephew still in Norway. His brothers and sisters have all passed away before him.

Mr. Eastness was an interesting man to know. He was well informed and could converse intelligently on many subjects. He was unusually faithful and accurate in his work, a devoted husband and a kind neighbor. He was a sincere Christian, who was fondly devoted to his Saviour. He was orderly in his religious convictions, and he loved churchly order. It was both a duty and a joyful privilege with him to freely support the work of the organized church with his means. Together with his wife, they have made arrangements to give a portion of their property to the various activities of the church of Jesus Christ on earth, such as missions and the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church fund. At the time of his death he held the office of deacon in the congregation.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 11 from the home at 1:30 P. M. and from the church at 2 o'clock. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
