Owen S. Sandvig, 74, of 1955 N.E. 58th St. died of a respiratory ailment Monday at home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Sandvig was born in Thor, Iowa and had lived in Des Moines since 1936, retiring from Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the United Rubber Workers union and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are his wife, Olivia; two daughters, Patricia West and Paul Campbell, both of Des Moines; two sons, Bernard of Des Moines and Kirk of Honolulu, Hawaii; three sisters, Beatrice Stockdale of Goldfield, Martha Johnson of Humboldt and Margaret Hahnke of Littleton, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Merle Hay Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or his church.
