Services for Roy W. Crabtree were held from the Chapel of the Eyler-Willim Funeral Home on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Richard T. Hohl officiated and burial was in Evergreen Cemetery. He died at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital on January 16, 1985 at the age of 78.

Casket bearers were: Raymond Thompson, Roger Sumners, James Sebby, Bill Post, James O. Jerde and Wallace Hagen. Betty Loomis was the organist.

Roy was born at Clarion on March 10, 1906 and was the son of Robert and Eleanor Stone Crabtree. He graduated from Clarion High School and then attended Cornell College at Mt. Vernon. While in college he was a football player, wrestler and on the track team. He graduated from college in 1929 and then was an athletic coach for 13 years. On August 7, 1939 he was married to Mary Ann Parmenter at Dakota City, Nebr. In 1940 he joined DeKalb Ag. Research and his work took him to many areas of the country. He retired in 1970 after 30 years with DeKalb and they moved to Texas returning to Clarion in 1980. Mrs. Crabtree died in February of 1984.

He is survived by a daughter, Joy Gibbin [Gribbin] living in Clarion, two granddaughters; Ann Andress, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Lisa Gibben [Gribbin], Aberdeen, S.D., four great grandchildren and a brother, Ray of Dallas, Texas. His parents, wife, a brother and a sister preceded him in death.

Roy was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine. In 1974 he was inducted into the Cornell College Sports Hall of Fame.
